David Warner is open to playing against India after retiring.
David Warner, the former opener for Australia, stated on Tuesday that if the home side needs him in the opening slot, he is prepared to come out of retirement and play against India in the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
After the home Test match against Pakistan in Sydney earlier this year, the 37-year-old left-handed opener declared retirement from the game.
Warner scored 34 and 57 runs in both innings, but the home team had won the match.
“You just need to pick up the phone; I’m always available. I’m dead serious all the time. I’ve essentially had the same preparation because, let’s face it, the lads haven’t played a red ball game since their previous Test matches in February,” Warned told Code Sports.
Australia’s attempt to advance to the World Test Championship final will depend on their performance against India at home. On November 22, the five-Test series begins in Perth.
Warner will need to play a few games in the Sheffield Shield to get back into shape and win over the selectors, while the Australian players prepare a lot.
“To be honest, I would be more than happy to play the next Shield game and go out there and play if they truly needed me for this series.”
“I wanted to finish the game and retire for the proper reasons, but if they need someone, I’m willing to help. “I won’t be afraid of that,” he continued.
Due to Cameron Green’s scheduled lower spine surgery, which will keep him out of the series for at least six months, Australia is currently facing an opening dilemma.
The Australians also have an opening dilemma since Steven Smith has yet to be very successful as an opener against the West Indies at home and in New Zealand.
Smith and Usman Khawaja have been in charge of opening duties after Warner’s retirement, having participated in four Test matches.
With a fifty apiece and no hundreds, Khawaja has amassed more runs (227) than Smith (171) during this time. In matches against the Windies, they have recorded their most excellent scores of 75 and an undefeated 91, respectively.
After losing the trophy in the last four games, the Kangaroos will be itching to get it back from Rohit Sharma and company.
