In the IPL 2024 the price soars to billions!

In 2024, the IPL (Indian Premier League’s) valuation increased by 6.5% to USD 16.4 billion (about Rs 134,858 crore), citing a report by the American investment bank Houlihan Lokey.

Additionally, it stated that the cash-rich T20 league’s brand worth has grown 6.3% annually to USD 3.4 billion (about Rs 28,000 crore).

The salt-to-software Tata Group’s title sponsorship of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for an additional five years (2024–2028) at a cost of roughly USD 300 million (Rs 2,500 crore) contributes to the league’s increased worth. This is almost 50% higher than the previous arrangement, which paid Rs 335 crore per season.

“This significant investment, coupled with last year’s massive media rights auction, underscores the IPL’s status as a pivotal platform for esteemed brands seeking to enhance their value,” the report stated.

Except for global spectacles like the Olympics, FIFA World Cup, and Cricket World Cup, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is the only property globally capable of reaching a population of over a billion people, and its appeal extends beyond the Indian subcontinent, it continued.

Trade names and trademarks are examples of intangible assets with a monetary value known as brand value.

“As a household name with strong brand recall across multiple generations, the IPL is highly recognized today,” stated Harsh Talikoti, Senior Vice President of Corporate Valuation Advisory Services, Houlihan Lokey.

The research states that IPL has been valued independently as a brand and legitimate corporate organization. It has taken into account the revenue and cash-producing

Strength of the IPL as a stand-alone event.

According to the research, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is still the most valuable IPL team, while Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has the highest yearly growth.

“Despite each team having sponsorship revenue ranging from USD 5 to USD 12 million, franchise revenue has increased significantly over the years, primarily due to money from television rights. Qatar Airways and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have signed a significant contract for around USD 9 million (Rs 75 crore) for three years, “it stated.

At USD 227 million, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is ranked second in brand and business value. Mumbai Indians (MI), whose brand is worth USD 204 million, comes in second.

Rajasthan Royals (RR), with a brand value of USD 133 million, is ranked fifth.

“RR’s appeal as one of the fastest-growing brands in the IPL ecosystem was further demonstrated by the bulk of its sponsors renewing their affiliation. “RR jumped two spots to the fifth spot thanks to these factors,” the statement read.

On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), with a USD 132 million brand value, comes in sixth place.

“Having done exceptionally well at the auction and developing a new squad under the leadership of Pat Cummins, SRH managed to pick the stars of the recently concluded World Cup that contributed to the franchisees’ great performance,” stated the statement.

Delhi Capitals, who returned its most valuable player and captain, Rishabh Pant, to the squad, came in seventh place among the other teams with a USD 131 million brand value.

According to the survey, Lucknow Super Giants has a brand worth USD 91.0 million, Punjab Kings (PBKS) has a brand value of USD 101 million, and Gujarat Titans ranks ninth with a brand value of USD 124 million.
