The T20 World Cup winners, led by Rohit Sharma, visit Prime Minister PM Modi at his home before taking a plane to Mumbai for additional festivities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the T20 World Cup 2024 gala featuring the Indian squad on Thursday. The Indian team checked into the ITC Maurya Hotel upon arrival in New Delhi at approximately 6:00 AM and boarded a team bus to PM Modi’s house. The crew, led by Rohit Sharma, had a warm reception at the hotel, followed by a quick dance performance. Shortly after, the players, accompanied by captain Rohit, celebrated with a special cake at the hotel before travelling to see the prime minister.
The Indian departed PM Modi’s house at about 1:00 PM, heading for the Delhi airport. From there, they will fly to Mumbai for the subsequent festivities.
Notably, following the final last Saturday, the Prime Minister called the Men in Blue to congratulate them on winning the World Cup. PM Modi and the Indian team scheduled their breakfast according to the schedule.
According to reports, the players must board a flight at 2:00 PM to Mumbai, where an open bus procession is scheduled. On Wednesday, Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, and Rohit shared messages on social media encouraging supporters to show up in big numbers to express their support for the team.
It would be a unique occasion for the 37-year-old Mumbaikar, a great fan favourite in the city.
A road show such as this occurred in Mumbai seventeen years prior, following Dhoni’s team’s victory against Pakistan in the championship match of the 2007 World T20 in South Africa.
Exhausted yet joyful, they smiled warmly and waved to the waiting fans.

After a special meeting with the prime minister, the squad will travel to Mumbai for a fan-only road performance that will take them from Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium, where they will all be honoured.
