Ruturaj Gaikwad Identifies the Only Factor That Caused CSK To Be Dropped From The IPL in 2024

Gaikwad performed clumsily against the RCB on Saturday. Glenn Maxwell hit him out on the first ball of the second inning for a golden duck.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad said that “his team was unable to cross the finish line” in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 27 runs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Gaikwad performed clumsily against the RCB on Saturday. Glenn Maxwell hit the opening ball of the second inning and got him out for a golden duck. Following the game, Gaikwad noted that the Bengaluru pitch was twisting and gripping well for the spinners.

He said that the first game presented several difficulties for the team. He noted that CSK was missing Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana from the team.

The captain of CSK expressed his modest disappointment at his team’s elimination from the IPL 2024 playoffs.

“The wicket was rather nice. It was turning and slightly grippy for spinners. With what the aim was, I was largely satisfied. I’m satisfied with seven of the 14 games played this season. The injuries and Conway’s absence were major obstacles from the beginning of the game. Pathirana sustained an injury, and Fizz was also missing. Having injuries makes it challenging to maintain squad balance. I was unable to cross the boundary, but these things do occur. Personal accomplishments don’t mean anything to me. Winning is, after all, the ultimate goal. I’m also a little sad because we didn’t get it,” Gaikwad, cited by ESPNCricinfo as saying.

Before the game, CSK chose to bat first after winning the toss. After captain Faf Du Plessis (54 in 39 balls, with three fours and three sixes) and captain Virat Kohli (47 in 29 balls, with three fours and four sixes) put on a 78-run partnership, Rajat Patidar (41 in 23 balls, with two fours and four sixes) and Cameron Green (38* in 17 balls, with three fours and three sixes) put on an OK 71-run stand for the third wicket. RCB amassed a creditable score of 218/5.

RCB scored more than 200 runs thanks to cameos from Glenn Maxwell (16 in five balls, with two fours and a six) and Dinesh Karthik (14 in six balls, with a four and a six).

To beat CSK’s net run rate and make the playoffs, RCB had to keep them below 201 runs.

CSK lost two wickets early and were down to 19/2 in the 219-run chase, with 201 runs needed to secure a top-four position. The side got into the game with a 66-run stand between Ajinkya Rahane (33 in 22 balls, three fours, and a six) and Rachin Ravindra (61 in 37 balls, five fours, and three sixes).

CSK was reduced to 129/6 by RCB, but a combination between MS Dhoni (25* in 13 balls, three fours, and a six) and Ravindra Jadeja (42* in 22 balls) threatened to steal the match from RCB. But Yash Dayal held CSK to just 191/7 in 20 overs by defending 11 runs in the last over.

With 14 points, seven wins, and seven losses, RCB is in fourth place. With seven wins and seven defeats, CSK is now ranked fifth; however, a decreased net-run rate has caused them to drop to that position.
