According to Indian wicket keeper-batter Sanju Samson, he has come “most prepared” for the World Cup, even though his attention was mostly on leading his club in the IPL.
After a stellar IPL season in which he amassed 531 runs, including five half-centuries, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals finally received his just desserts. When he was named in the 15-man Indian squad for the T20 World Cup in the United States and the Caribbean.
Ireland and India will play their first-ever match on Wednesday.
In a video released by the BCCI on Monday, Sanju Samson declared that he was “the most prepared or experienced Sanju Samson has come into this World Cup, actually.”
Ten years of numerous setbacks interspersed with sporadic triumphs. I’ve learned everything I needed to know about life in cricket before this significant competition.”
Despite his impressive IPL batting streak, Samson is a much-underappreciated wicket keeper-batter who has only participated in 16 ODIs and 25 T20Is.
“The IPL occupied my entire mind. Being the side’s captain meant having a lot on your plate and a lot to think about. My mind was constantly busy, but the World Cup selections were also in the background.
The 29-year-old said it was like receiving a dream come true to be called to play for the nation in the World Cup.
That was a huge deal. It seemed like the most excellent thing that could have occurred to my career, and those feelings are still present now.”
The Kerala cricketer stated that even though his team had an incredible season—leading the IPL table for most of it—he knew that getting into the Indian team was not a given.

“I was aware that I had a respectably strong IPL season and that I do have a chance to qualify. However, I was also aware of how difficult it is. Samson states, “It can be either or both sides depending on what the team wants, the precise combination our team management or the selectors are looking for.”
Life and cricket returned it to me when I realized Sanju was ready. That’s my preferred perspective on it. So, it was a wonderful occasion.”
Samson claimed that his career’s ups and downs have taught him always to see the bright side of things.
“Even when something goes wrong or presents a challenge, I always see the bright side because that’s when you learn about it. Many lessons are skipped while you are young and successful in many areas of your life.
“I’ve been extremely fortunate to have amazing batting talent; it comes naturally to me. I don’t know how it happens, though. It truly just appears.”
The cricket player claimed he was living in the present and had forgotten everything about the IPL when he arrived in New York.
“IPL has been completely off, and it’s been a completely different stage since I arrived here, and I keep telling myself, Sanju, you are somewhere (else).” I believe that many people dream, and then they ask themselves, “Okay, boss, what else have I got to do?”
“I didn’t need to motivate myself; everything seemed to happen independently. When you walk into that environment and meet someone like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, you can’t help but be inspired by them.
“After that, you become driven and are unable to turn back. All you see is the front. What more can Sanju Samson do to help the squad win games?” he continued.
